Artist's Comments

It was probably only 80 degrees first thing in the morning. Compared to the 100+ degrees it gets during the day in the middle of summer, 80 degrees is welcome to hike in, but still miserable. This was one of the few photos I stopped to take on the way back from Cottonwood campground.

If you look closely, you can see the hint of a waterfall in the deep shadows of the side canyon.

Heh, yeah. I think your photos of the canyon were what first caught my attention in your gallery. I was like, hey I've been there. ;p Thanks man.

Woah, very rich and saturated colours. I love the details on the cliff, and the blue-ness of the sky is attractive. The clouds make this look like a painting. Great shadow-highlight contrast too. Makes me want a polarizer bad, but I can't find any decent filters for my point and shoot Canon lol.

Sorry, I'm trying to sound like an expert, but I'm really not :P

Great work, as always!

Thanks. This actually reminded me of my old Velvia days when I saw it processed, so I went along with the naturally saturated output.

Polarizer for your Canon? Did you checkout B&H? Just look at the thread size on the end of your lens and match it up with the correct mm category.
:iconk121widowmaker:
Ahh, but my camera is a point and shoot. It doesn't have any threads like SLR lenses do :S It also isn't one of those more "pro-sumer" PowerShot models. [link]

I've heard of lens adapters that have threads, but they can come to be quite expensive.

Is there such thing as homemade polarizers? Like I used old sun-glasses for slight neutral density sometimes, but I find that annoying because I have to adjust white balance, plus holding it in front of the camera can make it shakey, but it's better than nothing I guess. Is there such a way to make a homemade polarizer?

Ah well, it doesn't really matter if you don't know lol, I might be getting a dSLR by Christmas anyways.

A program on the TV was speaking at the same time as I identified what I liked most about this photo, and so the phrase
"delicious shadows"
is stuck in my mind.

The greenery on these ancient, stratified rocks makes me think of my World History class and the beginnings of mankind and of agriculture. I'm sure these scene would have provided some good defenses and nourishment...and an awesome view for a watchtower.

This is absolutely gorgeous. You've captured the feeling of "steepness" somehow so well that it actually makes me have the same "oh crap, watch your footing, you're on a steep surface" chill response that I get in real life. Awesome!
