There's something about this that I like, even if it is center balanced. There's room for critique here.
I was out wandering around the cinder cones awhile ago, west of Wupatki National Monument. Technical Details Comments
Whoa. Time for me to write an in-depth review of this thing.
Ever remember those psychedelic 70's shows? Those ones with the purple clouds and whatnot? THAT'S what I'm getting when I view this piece. The bleak, world-of-pastels feel of the landscape and the disturbingly brown and complex sky give it a sort of dreamlike quality, as if you can't tell whether to be curious, apprehensive or just plain frightened. Despite the fact that you call the piece Center-balanced, I personally thing the symmetry's a bit off, a tad slanted and disjointed, with the mountains being in perfect symmetry between the two hills in the midground. Again, going back to the dreamlike-quality of the piece, gives it a even-dreams-aren't-perfect sort of attitude. Again, the clouds are just...amazing... Thanks, man. Always a pleasure to hear your thoughts.
By center-balanced, I mean that I've put the main object in the middle of the photograph, which usually turns out cliche because everyone's instinct is to put the center of attention "front and center." In this case, I think there's enough to look at without the center becoming overwhelming. Again, thanks for spending some time on a comment and letting me know how you feel about this. I love IR and this, especially, captures the effects so well! It's been a while since I've used my IR lens...I need to break that puppy out! ;o)
